Tünde Simon is an expert in visual education and the teaching and methodology of mathematics. She began her career as a teacher specializing in mathematics and art, then earned her degree from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in 2007. She earned her Ph.D. from the Doctoral School of Educational Sciences at the University of Szeged in 2018.
A defining element of her career is her nearly two decades of experience in public education, with a particular focus on the education of disadvantaged children.
She has played a role in numerous pedagogical research and development projects. As a staff member of the Institute for Educational Research and Development, she participated in the development of methodologies for horizontal learning and professional learning communities. As a member of the László Moholy-Nagy Visual Culture Methodology Research Group at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, she examined the competency area of visual communication and the interconnections between its various subfields. She was a member of the implementation working group of the Education 2030 learning sciences research group. Her research is shaped by daily pedagogical practice; her research questions and problem formulations are practice-oriented and student- and learning-centered, and her approach as a researcher and leader is community-based. She possesses a broad, horizontal and vertical perspective on the wide spectrum of institutionalized education. Her primary areas of research include the methodology of visual education, the pedagogy of contemporary art, the study of critical and creative thinking, and the practice and theory of horizontal learning.
She is currently the head of the Teacher Training Department at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. As an associate professor and research scholar, she plays an active role in renewing the didactics of visual arts education, building a community dedicated to arts education, and preserving and passing on the joy of teaching.
