Judit Vitári is a mathematics–physics–informatics teacher at the Pécs Reformed College Technical School and Vocational Training School in Sellye. She completed her studies at the Faculty of Science of the University of Pécs and at Eötvös Loránd University. She obtained a diploma in educational management (public education leadership) at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
She has been in the teaching profession for 34 years. From the very beginning she has taught students with multiple disadvantages, as the Ormánság region (Sellye and its surroundings) is the second most disadvantaged area in the country.
She began her career at Magyarmecske Primary School, where the situation of Roma children had a particularly strong impact on her. Since 1998 she has been teaching at the Agricultural Technical School in Sellye, where she also served as acting principal. By acquiring indigenous animals and an automatic milk dispenser, she sought to raise students’ awareness of responsible animal husbandry, to foster a love for the profession, and to draw attention to the importance and results of their work through the satisfaction of the local population.
In her lessons she pays special attention to cooperation with colleagues who teach vocational subjects and to the practical illustration and transmission of the teaching material of her own subjects. As a form teacher she organises community-building programmes. She readily takes part in the organisation of project days, excursions and mentoring programmes. Her aim is for her students to become thoroughly acquainted with the capital and other settlements of Hungary. By organising bicycle tours she strengthens the students’ love for the Ormánság region and their homeland.
Differentiation, cooperative learning and active student work play an important role in her teaching. She is happy to use digital tools and artificial intelligence for these purposes. She strives to harness the talents her students show in other areas and to put them to good use in their learning.
