Heri Dono, a leading figure in contemporary Indonesian art, presents his latest exhibition at the Kálvária chapel in the Epreskert of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts.
The internationally acclaimed artist's practice lies at the intersection of tradition and contemporary thought. He blends elements of traditional Javanese shadow puppetry (wayang kulit) with experimental installations and animated sculptures. His distinctive painting style draws from the symbolic language of East Asian cultures, reinterpreted through a progressive, contemporary lens. Social issues often emerge in his work, softened by a sense of humor and playfulness.
This exhibition at Kálvária showcases works created during Dono’s recent stay in Hungary—pieces inspired by the architectural and intellectual heritage of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts.
