International Puppet Workshop at the Tihany Artists’ Residency within the Erasmus+ BIP Programme
Organized by the Scenography Department of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme, an international BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) took place at the Tihany artists’ residency between 15–19 September 2025.
Students from three institutions participated in the programme: the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology from Ireland, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bari from Italy, and the host institution, the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. A total of 26 students worked together throughout the week.
Over the course of the week, they explored different approaches to develop their own characters: starting with collages, then moving on to cardboard models to examine the means of expression, and finally each participant created a fully realized, functional puppet.
The international collaboration provided students with the opportunity to draw inspiration from one another’s perspectives and to collectively explore the creative possibilities of puppet-making.
The professional directors of the program were Patrícia Pajor and Vivien Virág, lecturers at the Department of Scenography.
The photographs were taken by Alessandro Colasanto, Patrícia Pajor, Porziana Catalano and Angela Varvara.
